More control over calendar dates and displays

Feature request: Set the calendar view to display a specific month/week rather than the current date. Or be able to display all future events chronologically not tied to a tie window such as month. For example: I have a load of event i want to publish that start in September and we don't have events until then. Currently the calendar views will be blank/no events. I would like to be able to show 'next event' or set the default month to September.
